Fear essay Essays

Fear essay Essays Fear essay Paper Fear essay Paper For me, not going In to the dark helps me. What If something Is actually there walling for you? Just like the movies, you see all types of monsters. What If something evil was In the dark? But then you chose not to go there. Just being afraid of the dark can help you so, what Im about to tell you will make you think twice before going or being In a dark room. Three events that happened to me, that made me realize that Im afraid of the dark were when I saw someone evil In my room, then when I was watching a movie In my cousins house, and while I was playing hide and seek with my cousin James. One of the events that occurred to me that made me hate the dark was when I was about 1 1 ear old. I woke up in the middle of the night. As soon as I opened my eyes, I saw a strange man standing at the foot of my bed. I couldnt see his face, he just stood there and stared at me. I could tell he wasnt my dad because he was a lot taller and bigger. I didnt know who he was or what he was doing there. I was completely paralyzed with fear. I just lied there, couldnt move or scream. He stood there for what seemed like forever then I closed my eyes for like one second. : As soon as I opened my eyes, he Just disappeared in the dark then, I reached quickly for the switch to put the light on. I turned the light on but nobody was there. I heard footsteps in the hall. I didnt see where he went after that. I was too terrified to make any noise afraid that he would come back so I Just stayed in my bed and lied with my eyes opened the rest of the night. The next morning, I tried to tell my parents. They checked for any signs of a break in but there was none. All the doors and windows were still locked from the inside, and no windows were broken. Then my parents told me I must have imagined the whole thing, but I know what I saw. I developed an extreme phobia of the dark because of this. I dont sleep in the dark and always have to turn the light on before I go into a room. I couldnt stand to be In the dark during those days. One Saturday night, I had to stay over at my cousins house; we were playing video games and watching TV all night. It was so late at night, when he got tired of playing video games and went upstairs to his room to sleep. I was downstairs all by myself in the living room; It was dark and cold. I was watching a TV show, called Supernatural. It was about demons, evil things; It was scary. Then, I switched It up to a movie named Paranormal Activity It was even scarier. I was all alone In the living room, laying on the couch, and I suddenly felt Like someone was standing behind me, and I quickly turned over to check. I looked, and I saw a shadow Just that vanished Into the dark Just Like a flash, I thought my eyes was playing tricks on me. I believed I saw a shadow, so, I wipe my face and looked at the same direction and tenet was no season or anything suspicious. Tater Tanat, I went Dock to my movie, Duty I was still nervous, my palms were sweating and I was shacking. Then, I started having all this weird feelings, and I didnt know what to do. I can feel a spirit present ND me laying on the couch, I felt like someone was breathing over my neck. I couldnt move. I quickly covered myself with my blanket, and I was literally shacking with fear. I Just laid there with no movement for almost 10 to 15 minute. I took off my blanket slowly checking if anyone was there, but no one was there when I checked. Then I saw my cousin coming down the stairs to eat his food. I Just immediately got up and went straight to bed. The other event that occurred to me was when I was about 13 years old. My cousin James and l, were playing hide and seek. So, I went down to the unfinished basement to hide from James. As much as I dislike going into the dark, I thought little of it at the time. I went down approaching as carefully as I ever have. I descended down the stairs slowly into the darkness, and felt my way with only a bare minimum of light coming from the upper floor. I went down for a second, then I realize that I didnt want to stay down there. As soon as I hit the stairs, I had a faint voice like a whisper in the breeze and then suddenly, an old lamp flashed which we discarded in the basement. It suddenly lit up for no more than two seconds and fizzed out once more. Chills had gone up my spine and Goosebumps ran across both my arms. This very lamp that had lit up was discarded here, because the cable had been severed and could not be plugged into an outlet any longer. I ran upstairs as fast as I could, never letting go of the feeling that there was something attempting to grab me from behind. Now, Im twenty years old, so I am not really scared of the dark anymore. I have overcome my fear, I think now that I am older, I am not afraid to go into the dark, because I know I can protect myself. Im not as scared as I used to be. As of today, Im sleeping with my light off. So these are the stories of how I developed my fear and how the feeling started vanishing as I grew up.

Word Choice Than vs. Then - Proofeds Writing Tips

Word Choice Than vs. Then - Proofeds Writing Tips Word Choice: Then vs. Than The difference between than and then is so slight that its easy to mix them up by accident. However, with a clear understanding of what each term means, you should be able to avoid mistakes! Herein, we set out the difference. Then (Time and Consequences) The word then is used to refer to time, typically to indicate a particular point in time or within a sequence: First I went shopping, then I went to the cinema. It can also be used to show that something should follow on from something else: We must first deal with the budget deficit, then we can think about building infrastructure. In this case, as well as following on from something else in time (i.e., building infrastructure can only happen at a time after the budget is addressed), using then in the second part of the sentence also shows how an idea can follow another in terms of logical sequence. Other examples of then being used in this way include: If it rains, then the streets will be wet. If you eat too much cake, then you will get fat. Than (Comparisons) The word than is always used to make contrasts and comparisons. For instance, we might say: My father is tougher than yours. Or we could say: It is windier in Oklahoma than California. Another common use of this term is in the phrase rather than, which is most often used to express a preference between alternatives (e.g., Im going to walk rather than take the bus). Than or Then? As you can see, these words have very distinct meanings, despite their similarities. As such you should take special care not to confuse them in your work. Remember: Then = Indicating a point in time Than = Making a comparison However, since its often difficult to proofread your own work, for complete peace of mind you might want to try the professionals.

Written paper discussin the provision for a child identified as having Essay

Written paper discussin the provision for a child identified as having special education needs - Essay Example The major behavioural problems observed with children are autism, attention deficit syndrome disorder, dyslexia and Asperger syndrome and these problems hamper the ability of children to learn well. Two levels of interventions, wave 2 and wave 3 are designed for children who require special educational needs and the latter gives individual care for those children. Children need different types of interventions since their learning problems are different from child to child. At first, the need of the child must be identified and specific provision must be given according to the identified needs. The interventions for the students who require special educational needs are implemented in nursery, primary and secondary levels of education and there are SEN departments in each school having a SENCO (Special Educations Needs Coordinator). Children who want special education need to procure a statement, stating the special needs and special provision of the child and this statement for the child is given on the basis of statutory assessment. The â€Å"special education needs† has a legal implication for providing service for the children who are not able to learn with time, as their friends do. The extra assistance which are required for those children are in â€Å"schoolwork, reading, writing, number work or understanding information, expressing themselves or understanding what others are saying, making friends or relating to adults, behaving properly in school, organizing themselves and some kind of sensory or physical needs which may affect them in school.† (What are Special Educational Needs?). The state asks for the school and nursery authorities to identify the children who are having learning disability and the SEN program is designed for helping those children. Once the child is identified, as requiring special educational needs, the school authorities have to formulate an educational plan to help the student, in

The Change of Social Views on Mental Illnesses Essay Example for Free

The Change of Social Views on Mental Illnesses Essay In the past, mental illnesses were not widely accepted in society. Many times, upon the discovery of a mental illness in a child, the parents would send them to a mental institution to take care of them. Because of this, people with mental illnesses were often looked down upon due to the public’s unfamiliarity with them. Society’s ignorance has minimized over the years. The social views over the past 30 years have changed considerably towards people with mental disabilities due to socialization, by being involved in valued roles in society, and the evolution of medicine. The socialization of people with mental illnesses changed society’s way of thinking. The closures of mental institutions have contributed greatly to this. Sending a child with a mental illness to a mental institution to be raised, isolated them from society. By not being exposed to people that are different, it is difficult to widely accept and understand those differences. The more one is exposed to something, the more desensitized they are to it. For example, studies show that the more exposure to violence through the media and video games, the more desensitized the consumers are to the violence in real-life situations (Science Daily). Many times in society, one sees someone with a mental illness working in places that give them seemingly meaningless roles within that workplace (i. e. Jobs that do not contribute to society). By eliminating those meaningless jobs, people with mental illnesses have the opportunity to work among those without a mental illness. It will therefore increase contact, consequently increasing familiarization. The media has contributed greatly towards providing knowledge to the public about mental illnesses such as depression, autism, and bipolar disorder. By educating the public, it will cause less apprehension and misunderstanding of people with mental disorders. Marsha Gray of Community Living Mississauga points out that, â€Å"One of the things I find that is very bothersome is when people treat them like babies, like they can’t handle themselves. † This treatment is often a result of ignorance and often demeans the person whom they are speaking. It implies to them that people with a mental illness is unable to take care of themselves. Participation in meaningful activities that people without mental disabilities participate will increase the social skills that people with certain mental illnesses often lack. To build intimate relationships, for example, provides a chance to develop better self- esteem, and self-awareness that many people without a mental illness often take for granted as it develops naturally earlier on in life. As explained by Marsha Gray, â€Å"A social stigma is that people with mental illnesses cannot have a boyfriend/girlfriend or get married and have kids. It is encouraged to be engaged in those social settings to strengthen the social skills that they may not have had fully developed or may still need to learn. † The teaching of social norms is essential to the changing of society’s views. In the case of Autism, which is a â€Å"disorder that severely impairs development of a person’s ability to communicate, interact with other people, and maintain normal contact with the outside world,† there is the incapability to be aware of the needs and feelings of others. This may result in social deviancy. Social deviance is any behaviour that is different from the societal norm. With the incapability to be aware of the needs and feelings of others, people with autism may act in a way or do something that may offend others without realizing the consequences. This creates a stereotype that all people with a mental illness are never able to act according to social norms. This view can be changed by teaching what is right and wrong according to the social norms to prevent intolerance. There are certain valued roles in society that everybody plays. There is a stigma that people with mental illnesses cannot carry on the role as a parent, or as an employer. The evolution of medicine has played a large part in changing the views of society. The introduction of Lithium as a mood stabilizer for patients with bi-polar disorder was a medical breakthrough (NIMH). Because of this, people who are affected by bi-polar disorder are able to live a better, productive life in society with less extreme mood swings between mania and severe depression. In the past, electric shock treatment was commonly used to treat mental illnesses such as severe depression, and epilepsy. With new advancements in medicine, people with mental disorders are able to function better, and live lives that are more productive and fulfilling. With socialization, which is a result of closing down mental institutions, eliminating meaningless roles, and educating society, the views of the public have changed for the better because the increase of awareness and more exposure to those with mental illnesses. By providing centres that help teach people with mental illnesses basic life skills and how to act in ociety, it is getting easier for them to live their lives without constant scrutiny for the people around them. By creating ways for people with mental illnesses to be integrated and treated fairly has opened societies eyes and help society be more welcoming to those who are different and decreasing discrimination. The change of social views on mental illnesses have changed for the better, and will continue to do so because they see that all people affect by a mental illness want is to be no different than the normal John Doe, and to be treated as such.

Character Study of Gollum from Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers :: Papers

Character Study of Gollum from Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers He is a supporting character in the book who guides Frodo and Sam on their intrepid adventure, to Mordor and MountDoomto destroy the ring. Gollumrepresents the consequences induced by man's greed; he was once a human called Smeagol. He sought to use the ring's power for his own gain, but the ring's overwhelming and evil power poisonedGollum's mind and he became hideous and twisted. His only relation to the characters is his love for the ring; he is trying to remove it from Frodo's possession and make it his own again. He thinks Frodo stole the ring from him, and shows his resentment of him when speaking to himself: "Where iss it, where iss it: my Precious, my Precious? It's ours, it is, and we wants it. The thieves, the thieves, the filthy little thieves. Where are they with my Precious? Curse them! We hates them." The author, JRR Tolkien, created a particularly vivid representation of Gollum in several ways. The author uses "we" in Gollum's dialogue to show he is not one character but in effect two (smeagol, his good side and his evil alter ego). Smeagol is reluctant to bring harm or despair to Frodo, but his evil side convinces him to do otherwise. Sam, another character in the book describes Gollum as "sinister", "deceitful" and "mischievous". Gollum also has varied personalities and attributes. He himself is shown as being very distasteful of Sam, especially his cooking methods. For example when he catches rabbits and Sam Stews them with herbs, Gollum unpleasantly replies to this with "Stupid fat Hobbit!" [IMAGE] This image from the film interprets Gollum's expressions described in the book to the greatest detail "Gollum looked at Sam in dismay" Gollum is very similar to Boromir from the first book of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring. They both had very noble intentions, but the ring drove them to insanity and forced them to pursue the ring at all costs.
